The World Outgames 2009 took place in the Danish capital of Copenhagen and was organized by the LGBT Club Pan Copenhagen.
The tournament was initially split in two levels, where teams could register in competitive (A) or recreational (B) level according to what they wanted. 5 teams registered for each level, giving a total of 10 teams. Then it was decided that the 5th place of the A level group stage would join the knock-off stage on level B, and the 1st place of the B level group stage would join the knock-off stage on level A.
